Omair Ahmad

The Storyteller's Tale - Omair Ahmad

"..the road is still open and there is much to see, but only if you have the courage to see that the first step is always a departure."

An enjoyable novella on conversing through stories, and what stories these are, stirring memories of old fables of loyalty, bravery and love. Very nicely gathered and strung together. An easy read interspersed with several beautiful sentences.

Khwaja Ahmed Abbas

Sardarji and Other Stories - Khwaja Ahmed Abbas (edited by Suresh Kohli)

Some stories resonate across time, because of 'something' tangible which make you smell the earth, feel the heat, abhor the characteristics, judge the foibles, and yet - recognize, understand and hold-on to the struggles, and feel the stirring of that inexplicable emotion and pride associated with belonging to the home country. This compilation was filled with that 'something'. Almost each story has immense, clear and easy potential to be translated into a fantastic script. For me, this one clearly goes out to those who stayed, and those who continue to stay, in the homeland. Glad to have read them and look forward to searching out Abbas's old newspaper columns. A Padma Shri awardee who deserved it.
